Mechanism of action:
The mechanism of action of Cefaclor is based on the inhibition of bacterial cell wall synthesis (in the growth phase) by blocking the penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) such as transpeptidases. This results in a bactericidal effect.
Therapeutic indications:
For the treatment of acute or chronic infections of different severity caused by pathogens that are sensitive to cefaclor and accessible to oral therapy.
This includes:
- Upper and lower respiratory tract infections
- Infections of ear, nose and throat, such as otitis media, sinusitis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis
- Renal and urinary tract infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Gonorrhea
